About WMV
Washington Musica Viva, Inc. (WMV) was incorporated in Montgomery County as a non-profit arts organization in July 1998. Its mission is to produce public performances of a broad range of classical, jazz-based, and contemporary chamber music. Washington Musica Viva has a special focus on local composers, women composers, African-American composers, composers suffering under political oppression, and unfamiliar masterpieces of all kinds.
WMV began as a monthly multi-disciplinary performance series produced in the Howard Avenue Kensington studio of visual artist Marilyn Banner. These performances were extraordinarily popular, with audiences often overflowing the capacity of the studio. Consequently, WMV began to perform in various larger venues in the Washington area. Now in its 14th season, WMV has produced more than 180 programs, with recent performances at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage, the Czech Center in NY, the Embassy of the Czech Republic, the Embassy of Austria, Brooklyn Conservatory, Busboys and Poets DC, and Washington Conservatory. Directed by pianist Carl Banner, the WMV ensemble is composed of professional musicians from the Washington-Baltimore area and New York.
Washington Musica Viva has been selected by the Maryland State Arts Council to be on the Maryland Touring Artist Roster.
Washington Musica Viva, Inc. is a 501(c)3 organization, and all contributions are fully tax deductible. WMV can be reached at 301-891-6844. Its mailing address is WMV, 7502 Flower Ave, Takoma Park, MD 20912.
